I'm Moving to China

I'm flying to Shanghai tomorrow. I have a six-month student visa for studying at a Chinese language school. Officially, I'll be spending my time learning Chinese, and unofficially, I'll be trying to do startups. I'm choosing to live in the Jing'an district, an area with lots of expats.

Of all the places in the world, mainland China was the one where I could see myself living most fruitfully. I feel comfortable in the culture / social conditions and I see opportunity. I like worldly cities and I chose Shanghai over Beijing, Guangzhou, Harbin, etc. because it is the most westernized and NYC-esque.

This is what I'm bringing.

This is all my stuff, excluding winter belongings. I could bring less than I did when I left on my backpacking trip, but it's useful to have a greater variety of clothes for city life. Having less stuff doesn't grant as much utility when you're staying put. Still, thanks to my backpacking minimalism, I could abandon half of my stuff without any anxiety.

Packed.
