OkCupid: How many guys/girls in Canada are using it?

tl;dr : a couple thousand in each major Canadian city, ~70% male, ~88% 20-37 year-olds.
But you should because the graphs are wild!(y interesting)

I gathered data on the top 10 Canadian cities by population. Using OkCupid's match search, I extracted the age, gender, relationship status, sexual orientation, and attractiveness of all the users that had logged in this month for each city. We'll focus on age/gender for now.

Right away, one thing is unignorable: there are more than twice as many guys as girls. It's expected, but over twice as many is pretty significant. I wonder where the steady state ratio of men to women is... I would guess for a website like OkCupid, it would be in the 50%-80% male range - any less and men would join / women would leave, any more and both sexes would leave.

There are two significant blips in this graph. Firstly: on the female line at ages 30-31 there is a plateau interfering with the continuity of the curve. After age 34, the female line appears to correct back to the original curve. If you look at graphs for individual cities, you can see more on this phenomenon.

Depending on the city, there were different blips, all in the age range of 27-32. I tried googling "Why do 30 year old women do?" but I didn't get any leads. Maybe a socially/biologically induced *getting old, need relationship* switch gets flipped... It's notable that the average age of a Canadian bride was 28.5 in 2003 (and has been rising).

The other interesting blip in the summary graph appears on the male line at ages 36-37. These graphs of the next two largest cities by OkCupid user population concur.

Unlike the female blip, this one is identical across all cities. A few of the cities (like Vancouver) had no blip at all, but every other city had the anomaly at ages 36-37. The average age for a groom is probably much lower (30.6 in 2003). The average age for divorce is in the early 40s and I have no other hypotheses. Ideas?

Finally, here is data for the top Canadian cities by population. Note that Quebec City is not on the list because there's ~100 people from there. Probably because it's impossible to find. It took me a while to find it - you have to search "Quebec", and the location is named "Quebec, Quebec, Canada."

Also worth mentioning is the way the data was collected. Searches were done on each city using the match search | for people within 25miles | with a profile picture | that had logged in within the last month. More scraping / statistical analysis to come!

Edit: Apparently the data is influenced by the searcher. The age distribution and gender distribution are impacted (there are more older people and more women than appear when searching for 'all people' as a 20-something male). More information here.
